My life changed the day I discovered Simon Baynes - Books and Music in a side street in Shrewsbury. There were hundreds of new, very well-chosen classical CDs: Naxos, Hyperion and various other labels. I immediately found quite a few I had been wanting for some time. Over the last couple of years, Rodney has obtained for me many CDs on many labels, some coming from abroad. He has helped me complete my Kathleen Ferrier collection, including one I could not find offered for sale by any company. He also obtained for me a really obscure South African CD of traditional singing, which I had been trying to get hold of for eight years. Major chains of specialist shops and mail order companies had all failed to come up with it.
I haven't yet mentioned the thousands of second-hand books: I have found some real gems, particularly on the lives of composers and also old writers on the countryside. There are even comfy chairs, loos, and you can make yourself a hot drink!

Simon Baynes - Books and Music is a tranquil and most pleasant oasis in the heart of old Shrewsbury, an interesting three-floors offering a good range of fine literature. And, thank goodness, on the upper floors at least, one's concentration is not compromised by the playing of "background music": instead there is peace and quiet.

I visited your shop yesterday and as I browsed your shelves and walked along the creeky floor there was something I noticed. Which I have never felt before in any other bookshop. And that was a feeling of respect and love for books. Your shop makes you appreciate what they are, not just in their physical form but the history and culture. The craftmanship and details of what the printing people have done and the ambience that is created by having a decent book to read. I commend you on this and will be visiting your shop again.
I think it's really neat that you can provide the accesories ie free drinks, 2 toilets, couches and a vast array of bindings. It is really brilliant. I come from Wrexham which unfortunately doesn't have the history of Shrewsbury and even more dissapointing the lack of enthusiasm for culture. But your town and mindset makes the short journey so full of anticipation.
I have just started collecting books myself and hopefully may come across a Caxton one day but what I would love is to create what you have in my own town.

Only opened in these premises in April, three newly decorated floors, good range of well organised stock at sensible prices, free tea, coffee and mints, plus a toilet, together with a very pleasant owner!

For your website, might I submit - that your bookshop is the most wonderful one I have been in, and have been in LOTS!
Your shop allows you to meander through its precincts as they lead you on an adventure through their marvels; inviting you to sit a while in comfort when you do discover a wondrous treasure - and, after replenishing you with tea, coffee, or a soft drink - fortifies you enough to allow your adventuring to continue.
I like your shop very much.

Simon Baynes Books and Music is a lovely place to browse and relax whilst looking for a good book to read or choosing a CD. The selection is second to none. With just about everything to suit everybody. The staff are helpful and courteous. Nothing is too much trouble. Tea and coffee is made available. This small book shop is a pleasure to visit and is a must stop shop when visiting the town of Shrewsbury.
